The beginning.....

In April of 2007, while stationed in Okinawa Japan, we began our adoption journey for our 2nd child. We signed on with Journeys of the Heart and worked on mounds of paperwork, our Home Study, and the tons of paperwork that is necessary to adopt Internationally. We decided that we would ask to be matched with a little girl was a little older since Will was already 10 so that they would not be so far apart in age. We were told that since we were open to an older child, that it could happen very quickly, possible as soon as our paperwork was complete. We completed our Home Study and were approved by USCIS in September. When we then inquired of JOH what was next, we were told that we were just waiting for a referral and that it could be up to a year. They suggested that we start watching the "Waiting Child" lists. Which we did.

On January 18th, I saw a note on the "WC" page for JOH that listed a little girl who was almost 3 years old and had been diagnosed with asthma and skin allergies. We immediately requested information and received her file the next day. We saw this adorable face and fell in love. Within a couple of hours, we had her medical file reviewed by Dr.'s and formally requested that she become our daughter. On January 31st we received an email that said we had been approved to become her parents. We also learned that we were going to be allowed to bring her home BEFORE the adoption was final. Since a Taiwanese citizen could enter Japan without a VISA, they were going to let us bring her home while the Taiwan courts processed the adoption.
