Three years ago today, I met this beautiful little girl. She came into the area where we were and ran straight to me, hugged me, then ran back to one of the nannies at Cathwel. We had been told before we arrived, that she showed "strong stranger anxiety" and that we should be prepared for it to take a while for her to warm up to us. The first 30 minutes that we were there she was shy and reserved, then she allowed me to set her in my lap. From that point on, she has been my little shadow. Looking back at those video's from our first days with her, I now know that she was a very nervous little girl that was easily frightened and said so LOUDLY. She was terrified of grass, loud noises, animals, sea shells, or of me getting out of her sight. Now, she is rarely afraid of anything and runs through her days with such confidence. I am so proud of her and feel so honored to have her as my daughter.
Today we have spent the day just doing what she wants to do. We went to a Birthday Party for one of her classmates at the skating rink, have played outside, played dress-up with the beautiful new clothes that Catherine sent from Okinawa, probably snuck in too many hugs, and spent the day together as a family.
